A message from Sandton’s CEO

The world is going through an unprecedented challenge in managing the impact of COVID-19. As we continue to adapt to these new circumstances, I thank all Sandton employees and all our partners and contractors for their tireless efforts in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their colleagues and communities.

The resilience and determination of the Sandton family is what will get us through these difficult times.

Sandton’s business continuity and growth strategy will continue to evolve as we navigate these abnormal circumstances with clear priorities placed on EHSS, our people, assets reliability, sales and profitability.

We continue to improve our response planning and actions to fight the coronavirus pandemic. In line with government directives and guidance on public and business response, we implemented measures to achieve social distancing, curfew except for essential personnel, minimum staff at operating sites, and quarantines where cases are suspected.

We also boosted our medical capabilities by increasing the number of doctors and nurses and securing enough supplies of masks, gloves and sterilization materials at our sites and buildings. Furthermore, we continue with stringent regular cleaning and sterilization procedures at all company facilities.

We continue to tighten infection control, working with Commission Civil, Defense, Ministry of Health and strategic contractor partners.

We are also focused on our remote mines, where we work closely with regional Governors’ Offices to maintain tight control on people mobility and quarantine as required, while maintaining safe and continuous operations. Our teams are working closely with all partners to control infection spread in contractors’ workers communities, taking extra measures to identify and ensure availability of critical manpower.

Sandton is leveraging technology to maintain normal business practices as much as possible. An online collaboration platform has been rolled out across the organization to help engage employees working remotely, and team members have been provided with the necessary equipment and training to manage their new temporary working environments, with over 200 employees attending 6+ sessions every day.

Recognizing that Sandtons’s duties goes beyond its operations, we have contributed  K2 million as part of our social mandate.

Sandton will continue to firmly follow all instructions from the Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as well as the directives issued by the  Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for appropriate continuation of operations.
